Things to do / Travel Guide

You'll see animals if you wander the farmland or go to the Churchill Downs racetrack, for which this region is well-known. For more amazing creatures that will thrill you, visit some of the region's awesome zoos and aquariums.

Perhaps best of all - and certainly oldest of all at 125 years - is the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden. Among the excellent exhibits you'll find is “Jungle Trails,” which takes visitors on a journey through the rainforests of Asia and Africa to witness just a sampling of the amazing wildlife living there. You'll see the Black and White Ruffed Lemur, the Slender Loris, and the Sumatran Orangutan, to name a few.
This is a highly-rated zoo that you really shouldn't miss if you're visiting the Central Kentucky and Tennessee region.

For other thrills, check out the Tennessee Aquarium, where you can see a Giant Pacific Octopus or a Potbelly Seahorse. You can also watch 3-D films like Deep Sea 3D and Wild Safari 3D on a giant screen that will make you feel like you're in the film!

The Nashville Zoo gives you 200 acres of sprawling park where you'll see Bengal Tigers, Brazilian Rainbow Boas, and many other exotic animals from around the globe. And for a more local flavor, stop in the aviary where you'll meet and perhaps whistle with many of the state's songbirds.

In central Kentucky, lovers of colorful birds, pygmy hippos, orangutans, and reptiles should not miss the Louisville Zoological Garden, where over 1,300 animals are waiting to see you.
