Diving on the Kentucky-Tennessee Border
You can swim over the border and back when you dive at Dale Hollow Lake. Located on the Tennessee-Kentucky border, Dale Hollow is 27,200-acre, 130-foot deep lake with 25- to 30-foot visibility. Divers enjoy a day at school when they dive in and around the remnants of the old, submerged Willow Grove Schoolhouse. Other popular Dale Hollow diving sites include the steep banks of Ashburn Creek, Pleasant Grove cliffs, Diver's Rock near the Sulphur Creek outlet, and the springhouse near Dale Hollow Lake State Resort Park. Dive boats and diving equipment are available for rent in Allons, Tennessee. Divers are required to display a “diver down” flag wherever they dive. Dale Hollow Lake is open for diving year-round.
Diving in Central Tennessee
You'll actually enjoy hitting rock bottom at Martha's Quarry in Lebanon, Tennessee. The unique dive site features the submerged remnants of a once-active quarry including a three-story Shaker house. Considered the prime Shaker attraction in the mid-South, it includes two pump houses, conveyer belts, a pickup truck, and even a greyhound bus. While diving down below you'll catch sight of freshwater fish including sauger, catfish, bluegill, and spotted or “Kentucky” bass. One of the mid-South's best diving destinations, Martha's Quarry features 40 acres of clear water with depths of up to 60 feet and visibility between 30 and 40 feet. An air-fill station and full-service dive shop are on-site, and there are changing areas. While beginner-level and advanced-level divers can enjoy Martha's Quarry, only certified divers are permitted in the water. The site is open from April until the last weekend in September.
