Romantic Accommodations in Central Kentucky and Tennessee
The ideal romantic getaway is always focused on finding a charming bed and breakfast - often set in the same style that makes the region unique. When in Nashville visiting the Parthenon and the Antebellum mansions, you'll want to stay at the Brentwood, a bed and breakfast that is particularly romantic as well as luxurious. This red-brick and columned mansion contains half a dozen well-appointed suites, some with Jacuzzis and fireplaces, and some with porches overlooking the well-tended estate. These suites are ideal for luxurious honeymoon, and then you wake up to a magnificent three-course breakfast.
In Chattanooga, stay at the Mayor's Mansion Inn, a stone-façade Victorian mansion. Order the romantic package, which includes lodging in two of the most romantic of the rooms, and extra goodies thrown in like flower bouquets and chocolate-covered strawberries. The suites are to die for, some of the most beautiful ever to be found in an inn or bed and breakfast. The Laurel Room, for instance, will steal his or her heart and take your breath away - designer flower-print fabric swathes through the room, and you sleep in a towering canopy bed.
Up in Kentucky, horse capital of the world, there are plenty of spots for romance. Lexington boasts a beautiful downtown with a number of historic buildings. In the thick of it is Lyndon House Bed and Breakfast, a red-brick Victorian home with beautiful and modern suites and period furniture. This establishment's romantic package includes, among other things, tickets to the Kentucky Horse Park, a must-see for all horse lovers.
And now for Louisville, featuring probably the region's most romantic bed and breakfast. The Inn at Woodhaven is a Gothic Revival masterpiece from the 1850s, with ornately-carved wood and carefully-reconstructed antiques and period pieces. The gardens are lovely, and, as the original owner was a landscape specialist, the current proprietors have taken great pains to maintain and improve on the site. This, of course, makes for wonderful walks around the premises. Inside, you'll find the suites spacious and inviting. The best is the Rose Cottage, a one-suite affair full of angles and a 25-foot ceiling. Climb the stairs to the loft for more sitting room, and stare up through the copula skylight to the nighttime sky. This cottage is uniquely octagonal, and it's surrounded by more gardens.
Romantic Dining in Central Kentucky and Tennessee
Nashville and Louisville are proud cities with good culinary traditions. To boot, the restaurateurs practice Southern hospitality with gusto. At Arthur's, in the old women's smoking room of Wyndham Union Station in Nashville, they'll pamper you like it was the 1920s and you and your lover were lady and lord. The ambiance is heightened by the décor, a celebration of light with crystal chandeliers and stained-glass windows. Dine on such specialties as the rack of lamb, but make room for after-dinner coffee laced with liqueur.

The house specialty is veal, thickly cut and topped with green spinach and garlic. By the way, be sure to check out the extensive wine list, with a generous selection of Tuscan wines.
Another Louisville favorite for a romantic meal is Azalea, housed in an old stagecoach stop from the 19th century. Adding to the ambiance, the booths are high-backed, so you have a table, and practically a whole room, all to yourself. The cuisine is of the international variety, and you can go with lighter fare, such as heavily-topped pizzas, or more sizable entrées such as lobster ravioli or beef tenderloin. The wine list at this establishment is also respectable, and there is more of an international variety.
