Expert White Water Rafting Review

Shoot the whitewater rapids of the Salmon River's Middle Fork. Challenge the 105 miles of Class III-IV+ rapids. The "river of no return" with more than 80 blood pumping rapids. These sections, Boundary and Indian Creek to main Salmon River, pass through Challis, Payette, and Salmon National Forests, and are located in east-central Idaho, west of Challis, 50 miles east of Hwy 95.

Practical Info: Rafting season is open approximately from May to September, with whitewater rafting trips ranging in length from 5 days to 6 days. The river is suitable for paddle rafts, oar rafts, inflatable kayaks, and dories. Portage may be required.

Useful Tips: Guides are optional, although permits may be required for private trips, and whitewater experience is recommended.

Expect to See: Bears, foxes, coyotes, and deer in a mountain environment.
