Hollywood actor Bruce Willis, co-owner of the Soldier Mountain ski area, knows a good thing when he sees it. Be prepared for a hidden jewel to be revealed to you. Located in the Sawtooth National Forest, 70 miles from Twin Falls, is an oasis of riding through cold weather under blue skies.

The summit reaches 7,177 feet and the vertical drop 1,425 feet. 1,150 acres of glades, bowls, tree, and groomed trails are all ready for your equipment to slice and soar over. Ten beginner, nine intermediate and seventeen advanced trails are handled by two lifts and one handle tow. There is a 35% coverage of manmade snow and the rest is subject to Mother's Nature's whim. Soldier Mountain is only open during the coldest months during their season of December through March, so check in with the mountain directly before you make the trip out.

Snowboarders are invited to ride the park which includes a triple hit tabletop with 15-30 foot gaps that transition into groomed roller landings. An eight foot spine is parallel to the quarter pipe, cornices, ramps, rails, and rollers to keep you and your board occupied. No inverts are allowed.

Pre-pay for your lessons and save up to 30% on their daily rates. Ladies and children have their own clinics but the ski school does cater to all ages. Claude's Sports is located on site to handle all rentals and repair needs that may arise.

Full, half day, backcountry, and punch card tickets are sold through the ticket counter. Take advantage of the military discounts with proper identification, and children under 6 or seniors over the age of 70, ski free. College and group rates are also available.

Nearby Fairfield bills itself as the "Best Undiscovered Small Ski Town in the West" and with good reason; this is the place to head after you carved all day. Check out the tasty food at the Iron Mountain Restaurant, take a drink in the Outlaw Bar and Grill or grab a delicious sandwich at the aptly named Sandwiched Inn. You'll be more than happy to warm up and relax your body at the Prairie Inn which offers custom suites, a fireplace in the lobby, and its own restaurant which offers a full breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu.
