Looking for a resort that's small in size yet huge on personality? The place you should be looking for it is in the Pomerelle Ski Area. Hidden in Sawtooth National Forest over 190 miles away from Boise and Salt Lake City, Pomerelle is open from 9am to 4pm daily with night skiing Tuesday through Saturdays from 4pm to 10pm starting the day after Christmas and running through March.
Snowmaking covers 50 acres while Mother Nature blankets the rest with an average snowfall of 500 inches a season. Top elevation is 9,000 feet and the vertical drop reaches 1,000 feet! 800 acres of terrain are serviced by 4 lifts of which 2 are only surface. There are five beginner trails, twelve intermediate, and seven advanced slopes to make your legs burn with excitement.
Check out the Ladies Day package which includes a lift ticket, lunch, and a lesson in a friendly non-competitive environment. Adults, youth, and senior passes are on sale, and with the most expensive ticket topping out at under $40, Pomerelle is an inexpensiveat choice. Children under the age of 6 ride free with a paying adult. Full, half day, day and night, or night-only passes are available. All major credit cards are accepted.
Photo identification or a driver's license, as well as a deposit on a credit card, are required for all rental equipment. There is a full range of skis, snowboards, ski blades, and snowshoes. Package your equipment with a lesson and save money. Private and group lessons are offered by qualified and friendly instructors. There is even a "Wanna Be a Pro?" clinic where you can see if you have what it takes to become an instructor if you ever had the interest.
Snowboarders have access to all trails which makes up for the fact that there is no terrain park. There are Rail and Slope style competitions held throughout the season.
Albion Valley is the place for your apres ski, with a choice of the Albion Café or Annie's Saloon with its fine dining, chilled wine and mixed drinks on the menu. Stop in at the Sage Mountain Grill for homemade pies and bread to top off the night. Finally, rest your head and curl up under the covers at the Best Western, one of the bed and breakfasts', or a motel of your choice and dream of the powder you pushed up just hours before.
