Known for its pristine designated Wild and Scenic Rivers, Nez Perce National Forest is a big draw for whitewater enthusiasts, as the Snake, Salmon and Selway Rivers of the Nez Perce equal pure adventure. But even the less adventurous can enjoy this national forest by relaxing and picnicking by a stream, fishing for steelhead, or simply enjoying the spectacular scenery. Nature lovers will enjoy watching the large elk herds, and history buffs will appreciate the early gold mining history of the area. For those who want to extend their stay and enjoy a night under the stars, there are plenty of undeveloped sites which await you, or choose from 25 designated camping areas for a more comfortable sleep.
The Nez Perce National Forest is located in the heart of north-central Idaho and stretches from the Oregon border on the west to the Montana border on the east. It is roughly bounded by the Selway River drainage on the north to the Salmon River on the south. The forest is headquartered in Grangeville, Idaho.
