Outdoor Recreation around Sun Valley and Ketchum, Idaho
The towns of Sun Valley and Ketchum, Idaho make an ideal base for exploring the Sawtooth Mountains and the High Country of Central Idaho. The upscale air of Sun Valley and Ketchum means that there is good food and entertainment and there are lodging options for most budget ranges. Sun Valley Resort and its two mountains Bald Mountain and Dollar Mountain are considered one of the top ski destinations in the United States. Summer activities include mountain biking, hiking, fishing, wilderness trekking and more. The Wood River Trail System and the Sun Valley Trail are accessible right in town and other prime outdoor recreation destinations are a day trip away. Stanley, about an hour to the north makes a great base for exploring the Sawtooth Mountains National Recreation Area. In the other direction - Craters of the Moon National Monument makes for a good day trip from Sun Valley
Outdoor Recreation around Hells Canyon and the Snake River, Idaho
Hundreds of miles of hiking trails are maintained in Hells Canyon National Recreation Area, with the 31-mile path at the base of the deepest canyon in the country, one of the most popular. Out on the river, single and multi-day excursions are available on the Snake River. Snake River rafting trips may encounter up to Class V rapids.
The town of Riggins, Idaho is the center of Idaho's whitewater rafting community. Multi-day Salmon and Snake River Rafting trips start right in town.
