Adventure Travel around Sun Valley and Ketchum, Idaho

Sun Valley is the birthplace of helicopter skiing and the ski terrain around Sun Valley is all about endless runs through light powder. When the snow melts, it is all about hiking, mountain biking, water activities and even paragliding. Heading deeper into the High Country and the Sawtooth Mountains National Recreation Area, the area around Stanley is a great base for adventure travel. Shooting the Class III and Class IV rapids of the Upper Main Salmon near Stanley is a popular day activity. Much longer kayak and rafting trips are available on the Middle Fork and the Lower Main Salmon.


If you are looking for a seriously enough named spot for an adventure vacation , the Frank Church – River of No Return Wilderness Area should do it for you. It is the largest wilderness area in the United States, larger than some states and countries. The rivers are the roads here and the kayaks are the cars, so plan on spending lots of time and bring enough trail mix to power your transportation.

Shoot the Class IV and Class V rapids of the Snake River as it cuts through the deepest canyon in the United States. Multi-day river expeditions may combine the Snake River and the Salmon River, out of Riggins, Idaho. Hells Canyon National Recreation area has hundreds of miles of hiking trails, some deep into the wilderness.
