The first, and still most popular Disney park in Orlando, the Magic Kingdom has been entertaining millions of visitors annually, since opening in 1971. While Walt Disney World consists primarily of four parks: Animal Kingdom, Epcot, Disney-MGM Studios and the Magic Kingdom, it's the Magic Kingdom that people usually think of when they hear the word "Disney." This is the park that kids and parents love to come back to over and over again because the rides and attractions here are timeless; from Space Mountain to the Pirates of the Caribbean (the movies are actually based on this ride) to Cinderella's Castle to Splash Mountain.

If you've planned the family vacation in the summertime or during peak holiday season you can be sure that the park will be crowded and the lines for the most popular rides long, but if you can manage a family trip at other times you will find the park much more manageable and hotel prices more reasonable. Be aware that during the off season, some rides may be closed and park hours will be reduced. Other ways of beating the crowds are staying at a Disney hotel giving early access to some parks and using the Disney FastPass to reserve popular rides.
