One of Florida's oldest and largest State Parks, Myakka River is absolutely filled with opportunities for outdoor recreation. Hikers will enjoy the 39 miles of well-maintained trails, also perfect for longer backpacking trips. The park also has airboats available to take visitors on leisurely tours of the Upper Myakka Lake; these boats can glide across thick grassy areas on which standard boats cannot move. One of the more interesting attractions at Myakka is the canopy walkway and tower, built by a scientist and her volunteers to study and conserve canopies and the incredible plant-life living within them; the tower provides amazing views of the park below. Whatever you choose to do here, be sure to look out for the sleepy gators along the river banks and the beautiful displays of wildlife all about at Myakka River State Park.
