Our Nature Nut Says:

Canaveral National Seashore truly is a day at the beach. This barrier island seaside has all the necessary elements for a relaxing weekend or vacation on the coast. The park boasts exquisite nature trails, lagoon and surf fishing, boating, swimming, and surfing year-round. Majestic, endangered sea turtles lay their eggs in the barrier sand and several migratory birds visit each winter. Turtle Watches, an absolute must-see event, take place every June and July. The park holds the title for the second-highest number (13) of endangered or threatened species in the entire U.S. National Parks System. Altogether, more than 1,300 plants and animals inhabit the shores of Canaveral. Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge in Titusville, Florida is one of the best places to view wildlife.
The John F. Kennedy Space Center is located on the island and about two-thirds of the park is owned by NASA, so don't be surprised if the beach area is closed during a launch.
