The sands of Honeymoon Island State Park Beach are a welcoming creamy blanket for you on which to rest and rejuvenate in the golden rays of the sun. The park boasts not only a magnificent beach with a stunning view of the Gulf of Mexico, but pine forests, nature trails, bird observation posts, and over 200 species of plant life and a wide assortment of birds, some endangered, who make their homes on the beach.
There are concession stands with snacks and everything you might want for a picnic on the sand, or in the shade of a pavilion. The pavilions are available to rent.
Fishermen will delight in the endless possibilities to be pulled up from the ocean, like trout, snapper, redfish, and flounder. Kids will enjoy hunting the treasures of the sea washing up on the shimmering sands as the strong currents of the Gulf wash them ashore.
There's great swimming in the sun–kissed blue Gulf waters. The extensive ocean life living beneath the water also makes it a great locale for snorkeling and diving. It's a quiet place that has the power to invigorate and inspire you, while you rest on the shimmering sands amongst the shady trees and rolling golden sand dunes or dive headfirst into the shimmering green water.
Caladesi Island is a ferry ride away and has forests of lush pines and old oaks and a plethora of wildlife that creates a rare and beautiful tropical paradise. Bring the whole family out for an afternoon of exploration and a picnic (you'll have to bring your own lunch), and hang out and enjoy the natural wonders these shores have to offer.
Honeymoon Island State Park Beach was known as Hog Island until 1939. It was developed as a cluster of 50 palm-roofed bungalows, originally intended for honeymooning lovers. Today, the beach is open to everyone, but the romance and beauty of the island are as vibrant and exciting today as they were all those years ago.
