You can try snorkeling along the major beaches in the Tampa Bay area and around Sarasota on the Gulf Coast, as well as in the Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach areas on the Atlantic Coast. In addition, freshwater lake snorkeling is available in the Orlando area.
Some suggested snorkeling sites in Central Florida are:
- Caladesi Island State Park in Dunedin (Tampa Bay)
- Honeymoon Island State Park in Dunedin
- Wekiwa Spring State Park in Apopka (Orlando area)
- Canaveral National Seashore (just north of Kennedy Space Center)
If you'd prefer boat-access snorkeling to beach-access snorkeling, in the Tampa Bay area there are many charter boats docked in the marinas that can take you for an expedition.
Reasonably-priced snorkeling equipment is available from most major retailers and it's a great family activity.
