Things to do / Travel Guide
There is no shortage of restaurants in Central Florida. The Orlando area alone has thousands of them. Almost any type of food is available for any type of budget. While fast-food-type eateries dominate the Orlando area, there are also some more classy dining options. In the Atlantic and Gulf Coast areas of Central Florida, there is a more balanced mix of restaurants and fast-food places.
Restaurants around the Cape Canaveral Area (Space Coast)
Both Cocoa Beach and Merritt Island feature a plethora of restaurants. Not surprisingly, these beach town locations have many seafood eateries. Other cuisine types available in the Cape Canaveral area include Indian, Japanese, and Mexican, all at reasonable prices.
Restaurants around Orlando, Florida
Almost anywhere in this area you will find places to eat, albeit usually fast food. There are some areas, in particular, where there is a good selection of restaurants. The CityWalk nightlife venue in Universal Studios offers a good variety of dining options, including finer cuisine. Then there is “restaurant row” in Orlando's International Drive area. Some other fun and interesting places to eat in downtown Orlando are located at Church Street Station, a popular nightlife complex. For some Southern-style cooking, there are plenty of eateries along U.S. Highway 192, as well as in Kissimmee.
A special dining experience in Orlando can be had at one of the many special themed dinner theaters here. While eating, you will be entertained by a special themed show, such as a murder mystery, medieval show, or Wild West show. Ads and coupons for these shows are available in the many tourist-oriented magazines in the area.
For a special dining experience with the kids, the restaurants in the theme parks offer special prescheduled meals where famous characters (like Mickey Mouse and Spiderman) will be present. Advanced reservations, which are necessary for these, are available from Guest Services.
In general, be aware that dining prices at most of the restaurants in the theme parks tend to be high. A wise tip would be to only eat lunch at the park, while bringing some snacks along the way to tide you and your family over. There are also “refill cup deals,” which may save money as well as provide you with a nice souvenir, and some parks have an “unlimited food” plan.
Restaurants around the Tampa Bay Area
The longstanding nightlife hotspot, Ybor City, is also a venue for some excellent restaurants. A more upscale and trendy dining area can be found along South Howard Avenue in the Hyde Park section of Tampa. A special dining experience is a lunch or dinner cruise on the bay, with live music and dancing.
