Our Sports Superfan Says:
If you are looking for a fun day at the track, The Solano Racetrack is the place to go. The Solano Racetrack, located in Vallejo, California, is part of the five-day Solano County Fair in July, which means that you can enjoy extra fun and entertainment in addition to horseracing. Solano Racetrack is special in that it features not only thoroughbred and quarter horse racing, but also Arabian and mule races. The Solano Racetrack features competitive racing, with average fields of nearly eight horses per race. In addition to its live horse racing action, it also features great simulcast action year-round.
Planning for the Solano Racetrack began back in 1938, as the ownership group began the process of securing land and money. However, like so many race tracks in the United States, all plans were halted because of World War II. Excitement was in the air as the plan for Vallejo horse racing was finally coming to fruition. Horse betting fans would have to wait a little while longer though, as horse racing did not commence at Solano Racetrack until 1951. The wait was worth it, however. Today, Solano Racetrack has one main course that is 7/8ths of a mile long.
Starting in 2007 the Solano County Fair and the Sonoma County Fair began combining their customary racing date allocations into the Sonoma Solano Wine Country Race Meet. This first ever combined fair race meet began at the Solano County Fairgrounds, and then moved to Santa Rosa at the Sonoma County Fair. The partnership was created with the goal of improving the quality of racing for both fairs. It also enables the Solano County Fair to pack more fun and entertainment into the new format of a five day fair. In addition to the five days of great horse racing, fairgoers will be able to see more non stop free entertainment, including a nightly fireworks show each day of the fair, five nights of name entertainment in the Concert Arena, and exciting events each night in the Sports Arena. Admission prices to the fair range in the $4-8 area, with separate prices for adults and older children, while children 5 and under enter for free. All admissions include fair entrance and General and Clubhouse seating.
Solano Racetrack is located in Southern Solano County, at the intersection of Interstate 80 and Highway 37, 384 miles north of Los Angeles. The 147-acre site is located right across the street from Marine World Africa USA. Parking is available on site for around $6.
