A true blast from the past, Dr Wilkinson's Hot Springs Resort is one of Calistoga's oldest spas and one of its most popular resorts. Around for almost 50 years, this fifties style spa is both a lodge and full service spa that lets you play in the mud and water and feel like a kid, all over again. Guests can soak in mud baths, and mineral water whirlpools, enjoy mineral steam rooms, and relaxing treatments such as blanket body wraps and massages.

Dr Wilkinson's Hot Springs Resort has separate treatment rooms for men and women and robes are provided for your short walk from the dressing area to the tubs. Note: the mud baths are taken in the nude but if you prefer, you can wear a swimsuit (though be aware that it could be stained by the mud bath). The mud bath ritual or "The Works," is the real deal at this resort, and all the details are attended to here to make sure your experience is a fulfilling one. As you soak in the mud, you'll enjoy cool cucumber slices over your eyes, a mud masque for your face, a cooling cloth on your forehead and chilled mineral water to sip as you float in peat moss and volcanic ash. After 10 minutes of being submerged in the mud, you'll be guided into a shower and a bubbling, aromatic mineral tub bath and then a natural mineral steam room. The fresh cotton blanket wrap that follows will leave you floating off to dreamland. If you like, you can pamper yourself with a massage afterwards.
