What does the Golden Gate National Recreation Center not have? That's a tough one. The park, which is one of the largest urban parks in the entire world and one of the most visited parks in the U.S. National Parks system, is extremely diverse and includes several important national sites such as Alcatraz, the Presidio of San Francisco, Muir Woods National Monument, Marin Headlands, Nike Missile Site, Sweeney Ridge, and Fort Mason. Within these sites visitors can get a look at archeological, military, cultural, and historical sites and structures.
In addition, thousands of different plant and animal species, including dozens of rare, endangered, or threatened species, call the park home. Exceptionally-beautiful wildflowers of every color of the rainbow rise delicately from the ground, as if posed for a photo.
Activities in the park range from water sports and hiking to sightseeing, bird watching, biking, and much more.
