Capitola Beach - California

Address:Capitola, California

Our Beach Bum Says:

Known as one of California's most attractive city beaches, Capitola Beach boasts pristine beaches under towering cliffs and beautiful views of Monterey Bay dotted with offshore sailboats and colorful waterside cottages. Visitors will really enjoy the swimming here, popular because the Beach's position on the bay protects it from high winds, keeping the waters calm and cool and perfect for family fun and relaxation. There's a challenging surf break near the southern end of Capitola Beach which is great for Long Boarders, but if you really want to experience the choice sport here, play a game of volleyball on the nets, which are left standing here year-round.

If fishing is your thing, head straight to Capitola's historic wharf, a good place to cast for a fish and also nice for evening walks. During the summer you can leave your beach gear behind, because Capitola Beach Co. offers a stand near the end of the beach for renting boogie boards, plastic buckets, umbrellas, wetsuits and beach chairs. There are always restrooms and outdoor showers available. Note that while it's admittedly difficult to find parking in town, if you do, you should be sure to also stop in at the great restaurants, unique shops, and galleries where you can chow down a snack shop for souvenirs by which to remember your visit to Capitola Beach.
