The San Francisco Bay Area has several first-class botanical gardens. The temperate climate, combined with the cultural focus of the area's residents and the Pacific Rim in influence is felt in four of the regions gardens – three in San Francisco and one in Berkley.
The Yerba Buena gardens are in the South of Market area of San Francisco, not far from Union Square. Across town, the Golden Gate Park hosts the San Francisco Botanical Garden and the The Japanese Tea Garden. The University of California Botanical Garden is located across the Bay Bridge in Berkley.

After a few hours at the San Francisco Shopping Center, cross the street and enjoy the compact, yet varied Yerba Buena Gardens, and the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. You will find international gardens, with the Japanese design East Garden a highlight. There is also a fountain, butterfly gardens and even a picnic area for nice lunch break with the skyline of San Francisco in the background.

Also in Golden Gate Park, the Japanese Tea Garden serves fine tea in a traditional Japanese garden. The highlight of the year is cherry blossom time in April.
