Our Museum Expert Says:

Visit one of the most popular destinations in the United States and the best-known sports shrine in the world! Home to the history, stories and the magic of baseball, the National Baseball Hall of Fame is a piece of the country's heritage and a well-worthy tribute to America's favorite pastime.

A three-story red brick building on Main Street in the center of Cooperstown, the National Baseball Hall of Fame is filled with stories and legends about the ol' ballgame.

The museum is a central point for the study of the history of baseball, with 30,000 baseball artifacts and exhibits, including baseballs, bats, uniforms and trading cards. The 13-minute presentation called "The Baseball Experience" sets you off on your journey through the Hall of Fame, while "Taking the Field: The 19th Century," features more than 180 items from baseball's beginnings.

Visitors will love the Hall of Fame Gallery - the centerpiece of the institution that displays 278 plaques of Hall of Fame members on the oak walls. The Hall of Fame Library houses over 2.6 million documents, including a file on every player to appear in a major league game, 500,000 photographs and 12,000 hours of recorded film, video and sound for those interested in the detailed history of the sport.

There are plenty of restaurants to enjoy while here in the Cooperstown area, located in central New York State, 70 miles west of Albany and 30 miles south of the New York State Thruway (I-90). So whether or not you're a fan, gather your friends and enjoy a day filled with baseball!
