Our Sports Superfan Says:
The home of one of the greatest defenses in National Football League history, M&T Bank Stadium is a state-of-the art venue that also serves as the site of some important collegiate football and lacrosse games. When the Cleveland Browns moved to Baltimore in 1996 to become the Ravens, construction began on the stadium, which was originally called Ravens Stadium at Camden Yards.
Eventually, the Ravens, thanks to coach Brian Billick's stalwart defense led by linebacker Ray Lewis, became the dominant defensive unit in the NFL, winning Super Bowl XXXV in 2001. Unfortunately, while they have made the playoffs four times since moving into M&T Bank Stadium, the hometown Ravens have lost their last two home games in the postseason.
The stadium has gotten rave reviews for its superb amenities, great aesthetics, and beautiful views of the Baltimore skyline. It has a plaza dedicated to Johnny Unitas of the Baltimore Colts, with many greats from that franchise remaining loyal to the city of Baltimore rather than the transplanted Indianapolis Colts.
In addition to serving as the Ravens home field, M&T Bank Stadium has also hosted a number of high school and college football games, including hosting the Army-Navy game twice. It has served as a home for Johns Hopkins University lacrosse games, and has been the site of the NCAA Division I lacrosse championship three times as of 2007. Several big name bands and singers have also played concerts at the stadium, including Metallica and Korn.
M&T Bank Stadium, which holds just over 71,000 fans, is located in the Inner Harbor area of downtown Baltimore. It is on the Camden Yards site adjacent to Oriole Park at Camden Yards, the city's baseball stadium. It is accessible via mass transit on the Hamburg Street station of Baltimore's light rail system.
