Sorry, this museum does not exist, even though multiple websites will be glad to book you hotels near the museum. There is a story here, though. The museum exists on paper and has been trying for years to raise money to build the building and pay taxes on the land, which was received as a donation. If and when they do raise the funds, it will be an impressive site complete with a full sized replica of a slave ship, complete with original artifacts. The location in Fredericksburg, Virginia is very symbolic, located close to Civil War historic sites.
Visitors to Fredericksburg looking for the US National Slavery Museum will have the option of viewing exhibits on slavery at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC – once it is built. There are a few museums in the country dedicated to African American history and culture. Obviously, the slavery period covers a significant part of their exhibits. The Museum of African American History in Boston and in Nantucket features exhibits about slavery, as well as the anti-slavery movement in New England in the early 1800's. The Museum of the African Diaspora in Oakland, California focuses on the art, history and culture of African people throughout the world, including slavery related exhibits. The New York Historical Society has explored the history of slavery in New York, prior to its abolition in 1827.
