See Dorothy's original ruby slippers and say hello to Kermit the Frog! The National Museum of American History has more than 3 million artifacts in its collection to preserve America's past.
The Museum of American History is rich in the areas of science, technology, sociology, politics, popular culture, and more. Visitors will love seeing Archie Bunker's easy chair and Dorothy's ruby slippers from "The Wizard of Oz," as well as the museum's most popular and newest exhibitions, "The Price of Freedom: Americans at War," and "America on the Move," which looks at how U.S. history has been shaped by different modes of transportation. Other popular items include Abraham Lincoln's top hat, Lewis and Clark's compass, Thomas Jefferson's bible, and Edison's light bulb. In the Hands-On Science Center, kids can use lasers to unravel the mysteries of DNA, separate food dyes in beverages, and take intelligence tests. Visitors are welcome to enjoy lunch at any of the Smithsonian cafes while here.
To get to the Museum, take the Metro to the Federal Triangle and Smithsonian stations, on Metrorail's Blue and Orange lines, which are located near the Mall.
