Located in Baltimore's Inner Harbor, the Maryland Science Center is at the heart of the City's downtown. Since its opening in 1976, the Science Center has benn filled with interesting and interactive exhibits for the entire family. The Follow the Blue Crab exhibit introduces visitors to one of the region's famous residents. There are live diamondback terrapins, crabs, fish, seahorses, and native plants in aquatic display tanks. Visitors can actually walk across the floor on the full color satellite imagery, and learn about the health of the Bay, and kids are sure to adore the huge mechanical crab with moving claws and legs. Newton's Alley is another area filled with interactive discovery exhibits that introduce the phenomena of matter, energy, force and motion. Kids can pull themselves up to the stars in a chair, play a stringless harp, touch a cloud, and actually see sound.

In addition to awesome exhibits, the Maryland Science Center also features an IMAX theater and Planetarium. Should you get hungry Beakers is here, a café offering sandwiches, healthy salads, and snacks. It also carries kid favorites like pizza and Mac and Cheese and is a place where visitors can relax and chow down.

The Maryland Science Center is conveniently located at Baltimore's Inner Harbor in downtown Baltimore and is accessible from I-95 and I-295 from the south, I-95 and I-83 from the north, and I-70 to the west. The Maryland Science Center is governed by a Board of Trustees comprised of approximately 30 individuals from the corporate, educational, medical, and scientific communities. Board members served on a volunteer basis for a three-year renewable term. The Board of Trustees is responsible for ensuring proper ethical and legal compliance with regulatory laws. The Board also approves and supports the mission of the institution and is ultimately responsible for upholding the regional and national reputation of the Maryland Science Center within the community it serves.
