Since 1977 the Baltimore Museum of Industry has proudly preserved the technological industrial heritage of the great city of Baltimore. Visitors to the museum can interact with the technologies of the Industrial Revolution, all the way from food-canning products to broadcasting equipment.
The Baltimore Museum of Industry proudly boasts five exhibits, working as replicas of machine tool shops, printing shops, the pharmacy where Noxzema was invented, and a garment loft. The Decker Gallery showcases various industries vital to Baltimore. These fascinating exhibits paint the picture of how we were brought into the 21st century.
You'll enjoy the 1886 bank building and the country's first gas company. The Maryland Milestone Wall showcases the local innovations such as the world's first disposable bottle cap, the first American umbrella company, modern radar, and the first typesetting machine.
You will be fascinated as you learn why Baltimore and its docks quickly rose to one of the busiest ports in America. You can still see the coal-fired S.S. Baltimore, the only working tugboat on the East coast and the 1937 Mini-Mariner, the flying prototype of a WWII flying boat bomber. There's also a 1922 steam roller and a 1914 moving van, all fascinating exhibits of the bigger machines of old.
To get to the museum visitors can ride the No. 1 bus on the MTA which stops along Fort Avenue, just a block south of the museum. If you're riding in by car from the north, exit west onto Lombard from the I-83 south and make a left onto Key Highway. From the I-95 take Key Highway Exit 55 and go under the overpass turning left. Look for the green brick building with the red shipyard crane on the left of the street.
