The diverse history of Maryland comes to life at Oxon Cove Park and Oxon Hill Farm in Oxon Hill, Maryland. Oxon Cove Park and Oxon Hill Farm have had a rich history, being home to a plantation, a hospital, and, today, an area for families to experience the workings of an old-fashioned farm.
For 10,000 years, the area that is the site of Oxon Cove Park and Oxon Hill Farm was home to human habitation. In the early 19th century, the Debutts family bought the property and established the Mount Welby Plantation. In 1891, the future site of Oxon Cove Park and Oxon Hill Farm was sold again and became Godding Croft, a food production site for patients at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, and named after its superintendent, Dr. William Godding. In 1959, Oxon Cove Park and Oxon Hill Farm were entrusted to the National Park Service to guard its cultural and natural beauty, and both are home to self-guided and ranger-guided tours. Self-guided tours of Oxon Cove Park and Oxon Hill Farm allow visitors to explore the area at their own pace, viewing historic structures, the visitor center, and the barnyard. Ranger-guided tours have varying themes, relating to multiculturalism, 19th century history, agriculture, and more. After their tour, visitors can find plenty of restaurants in modern Oxon Hill, ranging from fast food to health food.
To get to Oxon Cove Park and Oxon Hill Farm, take I-495 south to exit 3, turn left onto MD-210, then right onto MD-414.
