Visit the home and farm of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, the only place President and First Lady Eisenhower ever called home!
The Eisenhower National Historic Site is actually the 230 acre Gettysburg Farm which served as the Eisenhowers' weekend retreat during his Presidency and his retirement home in the later years of his life. The Eisenhower home is famous for being the spot where President Eisenhower hosted and entertained many important world leaders. Today, the reception center (at one time the Secret Service Office), houses a bookstore and the center has exhibits on Eisenhower's life, from his boyhood days in Abilene, through the military, presidential and retirement years at his Gettysburg Farm. Visitors can take a tour of the Eisenhower home, which includes nearly all its original furnishings, and get a real glimpse into the life and times of the Eisenhowers. The house and its furnishings remain so much intact, that it'll seem like the Eisenhowers still live there today! Make sure you spend some time on the beautiful porch, a place the Eisenhowers sat for hours and hours during their lifetime. There is an illustrated brochure which provides a self-guided tour of the grounds and a farm walking tour which explores the president's Black Angus cattle operation. You'll also see green houses, flower beds, and summer vegetable gardens.
To get to the Eisenhower National Historic Site, take US 15 (if you're coming from the north or south) or US 30 (if you're coming from the east or west). Shuttle buses to the site depart from the Gettysburg National Military Park Visitor Center, located approximately one mile south of Gettysburg on Taneytown Road (SR 134) and US 15 business route. Be a guest in the home that hosted so many—you'll feel like royalty at the Eisenhower National Historic Site! Have fun!
