Our History Buff Says:

Beauty, history, and fascinating learning experiences are what await visitors at Constitution Gardens, a beautiful 50-acre park just off the National Mall in Washington, DC. Constitution Gardens serves as a spot for ceremonies and a gorgeous place to take a walk and enjoy the scenery.

In 1970, President Richard Nixon demolished temporary offices just north of the National Mall, and in their place, he lobbied for a "living legacy American Revolution Bicentennial tribute" in the form of Constitution Gardens, completed in 1976. Since then, the 56 Signers of the Declaration of Independence Memorial and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall have been established in Constitution Gardens.

Today, Constitution Gardens hosts government ceremonies and guided tours. An annual naturalization ceremony for new American citizens is hosted by the National Park Service at the gardens. Guided tours of Constitution Gardens are available as part of Washington's Tourmobile Sightseeing service, authorized by the National Park Service. Constitution Gardens is also a wonderful location to take a stroll while visiting other sites along the Mall, and visitors can find dozens of restaurants within easy walking distance, ranging from deli to health food.

To get to Constitution Gardens, take the Orange Line Metro train to Smithsonian Metro Station and walk west on Independence Avenue to the Reflecting Pool, then north.
