Our Botanical Gardens Expert Says:
Enjoy 50 acres of gardens in Wheaton, Maryland's Brookside Gardens. Highlights at the Brookside Gardens include a rose garden, a Japanese garden, a fragrance garden, and an azalea garden. In fact, Brookside Gardens is home to the founding chapter of the Azalea Society of America! As part of the Montgomery Parks system, you'll find activities for visitors of all ages, from recreational pastimes like tennis, camping and boating, to the more educational offerings like classes, nature walks, and bird watching. There's even a special garden for children that celebrates Native American culture! At the Children's Garden, kids can use their imaginations and pretend to be hunters and gatherers from early America—fun! And don't worry about rain, because Brookside Gardens has two glass-covered conservatories with exhibitions that change throughout the year. There's also the indoor Visitors Center that comes complete with knowledgeable staff, a reference library, and a gift shop. You can also find indoor refuge at the nearby Brookside Nature Center, a short walk from the gardens and a great place for kids to experience hands-on educational activities.
Special exhibits in the winter and summer months are not to be missed! Check out the Wings of Fancy exhibit May through September, a showcase of live butterflies that fly free in the conservatory; and in the winter time there's the Garden of Lights event, a winter garden walk with lights and enchanted trees and creatures!
A favorite spot to wander, relax, and learn, the Brookside Gardens are open year round and welcome you and your family!
