When venturing out into the DC suburbs, you'll find small wineries in Alexandria, Virginia as well as in Arlington, Virginia. About an hour outside of DC to the west is Shenandoah Valley Wine Country. Several vineyards and wineries can be found in this area including the Veramar Vineyards, which is located on a 270-acre area atop a hill offering breathtaking views of the valley below. The Shenandoah Vineyards were planted in 1976 and today offer a wide selection of Chardonnay, Founders Reserve Chardonnay and Chambourcin, Cabernet Sauvignon, Johannisberg Riesling, Shenandoah Blanc, and a few aperitif and dessert wines.

The Washington International Food and Wine Show is held annually each June, attracting wining and dining enthusiasts from near and far. The food and wine show is one of the industry's biggest and most heavily attended events.
The state of Maryland produces more than 180 different varieties of wines. With a climate that is conducive to the cultivation of classic wine grapes, more than 20 vineyards with decades of winemaking experience welcome visitors and shoppers in search of a good bottle.
