Things to do / Travel Guide
The weather in the Washington DC region makes for some interesting and varied subject matter. You'll have the best weather if you visit the region in either the fall, when mild, sunny days are likely to await your arrival, or in the similarly pleasant spring, when cherry blossoms are in season. Rainfall, though common throughout the year in DC, is usually not a problem given the wide selection of indoor attractions available. From December-February it's pretty much a toss up, as you might get lucky with some warm and sunny days, while icy rain and snow are just as likely. Pack light clothing for a summer trip, as it can get hot and sticky in a hurry, especially in the midday sun. You could also choose to enjoy some federally-funded air conditioning during the hot midday hours.
While spring and fall are rather pleasant, with stable sunshine and warm days, summer weather can be quite uncomfortable, with thunderstorms and muggy conditions. Winters in DC, on the other hand, are unpredictable; sometimes bitter, snowy cold fronts move in, while, at other times, the days can be sunny with higher temperatures. Be aware that if you come to the region to celebrate Independence Day, it's likely that hot and humid conditions will await you.
