Restaurants and Food in Washington D.C. and Baltimore, Maryland

Things to do / Travel Guide

Regularly hosting high-society functions and catering to the nation's political elite, DC is renowned for having some of the country's top restaurants. While there is no distinctive DC cuisine, all types of styles are served at all price ranges.

In areas closer to the Tidewater Basin to the south of the city, one can find a distinctly seafood-oriented cuisine. Even further to the south of the city, you begin to feel the impact of the deep-fried flavors of the American South.

Within the city itself, hundreds of cafés, eateries, and fine restaurants answer to pretty much all budgets and tastes. Tourists can find all sorts of international cuisine, from Ethiopian, to Lebanese, to everything in between. Prices run the full gamut from as little as $2 for a quick meal to multi-course gourmet extravaganzas at $100 or more per person.

Large concentrations of restaurants and eateries can be found in Georgetown, Dupont Circle, Adams Morgan, Downtown, and in Union Station, but there are also plenty of places to stop and enjoy a good meal in almost every tourist-frequented area. For instance, you can dine amongst congressional staffers in the large cafeterias on Capitol Hill. If you contact your member of Congress in advance, you might even be able to arrange a meal at the “Members Only” restaurants, located inside the Capitol Building itself.
