Things to do / Travel Guide
Even while the major attractions around the center of DC can be relatively easy to find and navigate, the many organized tours around the city provide tourists with an informed and guided approach that gives a fuller picture of the capital city.
Tours come in all shapes and sizes, from guided walking tours to riding along amphibious vehicles (“ducks”) that traverse both the city's streets and the Potomac River.
Several companies operate fleets of buses that tour the city and that can be joined in many different locations, allowing visitors to hop on and off as they wish. A trolley tour is another option for seeing various neighborhoods as well as the major attractions. There is also the option of taking a boat or bicycle tour. Boat tours around the DC area depart from the ports along Water Street.
The Gray Line bus company offers extensive guided tours around DC and the surrounding areas. A great way to learn and see the city without the need to travel extensively on foot, a bus tour can be helpful in identifying sites you might want to return to later for a more thorough visit. Details about tours and schedules can be found at the Gray Line Tours website.
