Things to do / Travel Guide
Pleasure boating is best enjoyed in the tranquil and relaxing setting of the Tidal Basin. For rowing and boating, the Potomac River can be a welcoming option for a full-day activity. Boats can be rented from shops along the Rock Creek Parkway as well as across the river in Alexandria, Virginia. A little further away in Annapolis, Maryland, pleasure boaters can make their way to Chesapeake Bay, which leads all the way out to the Atlantic Ocean.
Both the Potomac and the Chesapeake regions are dotted with numerous marinas and, on nice days, hundreds of pleasure boats can be seen floating out in the water. The best times for sailing in the area are late spring (May/June) and early fall (September/October).
Baltimore's Inner Harbor is a beautiful and serene place to go and rent a boat or take a pleasure cruise. Water taxis also traffic passengers around the harbor, and taking one can be a fun way to appreciate the city's main attractions area or just get from one side to the other.
