Think of the famous Beach Boys refrain: "Everybody's gone surfing," and then substitute the image of waves of white snow in place of those of blue water and you've got an image of what's happening at Southern California's Snow Summit. A huge terrain park is combined with a relentless snow-making and grooming operation to ensure excellent morning conditions at this winter oasis just a couple of hours from sunny Los Angeles. And while skiiers are certainly welcomed here, the action in the park is dominated by the snowboarders. The one caveat is that you should take care to come early before the crowds arrive (they're particularly heavy on weekends and holidays) and the afternoon sun stars to slush up the base. Despite this, be prepared to have a fabulous time at Snow Summit where the staff is as friendly as the conditions.
