At over 600,000 acres, Anza-Borrego is certainly California's largest State Park, as well as the largest in the 48 contiguous states. Located in the southeast corner of the state, a visit to Anza-Borrego gives visitors the "true desert experience," with incredible wildlife such as chuckwalla and roadrunners and a different mountain range in every direction. With 500 miles of dirt roads, park-goers are likely to come across unique wildflowers, cacti, and sweeping vistas, as well as bighorn sheep (called Borrego in Spanish, and an endangered species), kit foxes, and golden eagles. Besides auto-touring, there are ranger guided tours here as well as campfire events and other cool seasonal programs. Anza-Borrego an excellent park for hiking, biking, and backpacking as well, and the Vern Whitaker horse camp is available as well for horseback riders or packing.

Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is the largest state park in California. Five-hundred miles of dirt roads, 12 wilderness areas and miles of hiking trails provide visitors with an unparalleled opportunity to experience the wonders of the Colorado Desert. The park is named after Spanish explorer Juan Bautista de Anza and the Spanish name borrego, or bighorn sheep. The park features washes, wildflowers, palm groves, cacti and sweeping vistas. Visitors may also have the chance to see roadrunner, golden eagles, kit foxes, mule deer and bighorn sheep as well as iguanas, chuckwallas and the red diamond rattlesnake. Listening devices for the hearing impaired are available in the visitor center.
