Kachemak Bay State Park is 400,000 acres of the best of Alaskan wilderness. Due to its location, the weather is here ever changing and often unpredictable, but makes for an excellent setting for outdoor recreation. This park is brimming with nature, unexplored and contains massive glaciers, raging rivers, and crashing waterfalls along with countless flora and fauna that have made their home in the park including puffins, eagles, porpoises, and even whales. There are fantastic opportunities here for camping in the wild as well as fishing, boating, kayaking and hiking on over 80 miles of trails. Rustic cabins are also available to visitors who can't get enough of this incredible State Park.

Kachemak Bay is a critical habitat area, supporting many species of marine life. Visitors frequently observe sea otters, seals, porpoise and whales. Intertidal zones offer natural settings for marine studies. Land mammals include moose, black bear, mountain goats, coyotes and wolves. The many species of birds that inhabit the bay, including eagles, gyrfalcons and puffins, make it a popular area for bird watching.
