Denali Outdoor Sports and Recreation
Conveniently accessible from the Denali Park entrance, rafting the class III rapids of the Nenana River, is a highlight of a trip to Denali National Park. For a longer rafting expedition, of several days, head to the Talkeetna River, 50 miles away. Expect canyons, views of the Alaska wilderness and the full range of native wildlife. Bears, caribou, bald eagles, the works.
Hiking options at Denali range from leisurely strolls to multi-day backpacking expeditions. Several varied and good hikes leave right from the visitor's center. Hiking in the backcountry is a matter of taking the park bus in on the park road, getting off and walking. This will obviously require some advance planning and up to date information from the park rangers. Backcountry trips lasting several days can be arranged in advance with multiple outfitters.
