Family Travel to Anchorage, Denali and the Alaskan Wilderness
Families, who choose to extend an Alaskan cruise with a visit to the Alaskan interior, will find an experience well worth the effort. The one-way Inner passage cruises typically dock at Seward, Alaska, which makes a good starting point for a week or more heading north into the Alaskan wilderness.
The first stop will probably be in Anchorage. Besides being a real city, kids will find all the familiar elements, as well as something special such as Alaska's only indoor water park or biking the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail.
Next must-see stop on an Alaskan family vacation is Denali. Plan on staying a few days looking for Mt. McKinley and observing the wildlife. Make sure to take the family on a Nenana River rafting trip.
After Denali, it's either back to Anchorage for a flight home or continue to Fairbanks and fly from there. Kids will enjoy the gold mining related attractions in Fairbanks.
Travel With Kids on the Alaska Railroad
The Alaska Railroad is the glue that holds together family travel, connecting Seward, Anchorage, Denali and Fairbanks. The trips are relatively short, the seating is spacious and the scenery is amazing. Kids love trains and this one even has a glass domed roof for viewing the Alaskan interior.
