Shoot the whitewater rapids of the Chilkat River. Challenge the 5 miles of Class I rapids, and see the largest, and most concentrated population of Bald eagles in the country. This section, Alaska Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve, passes through Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve and is located in southeast Alaska, north-west of Juneau, 15 miles from the Canadian border.
Practical Info: Rafting season is open approximately from June to October, with whitewater rafting trips that can be completed in a half day. The river is suitable for paddle rafts, and oar rafts.
Useful Tips: Guides are optional, although permits may be required for private trips. Outfitters on the Chilkat River offer trips suitable for families.
Expect to See: Bald eagles in an environment of mountains, and glaciers.
