Things to do / Travel Guide
There's plenty of undersea adventure to be found in the beautiful waters of the Alaska Panhandle. During the summer months, just 10 feet out in the waters off the Alaska Panhandle's coastline, you'll be able to spot some of the most gorgeous sea creatures imaginable. Giant barnacles, sea stars, tube worms, and sea anemones live among the kelp and algae for all to see.
Here are some of the best spots for snorkeling, where people of all skill levels can enjoy a good snorkel:
- Douglas Island - spectacular marine life can be seen right from the surface
- Barlow Cove - orcas, sea lions, and other sea life can occasionally be seen swimming directly beneath the surface, depending on visibility
- Benjamin Island - sea lion colonies and other marine life swim all over and sometimes within a few feet of snorkelers on the surface
Equipment rental, guides, and tours can be arranged at the Channel Dive Shop in Juneau.
