Things to do / Travel Guide
Since the Alaska Panhandle is home to one of the largest fishing fleets in the world, fresh seafood is plentiful and reasonably priced almost everywhere in the region. A good steak, on the other hand, while available, will cost you!
In general, the Alaska Panhandle has a very down-to-earth unpretentious feel to it and the dining, while of very high quality, tends to lean to the rustic rather than the trendy. There are, however, plenty of options for everyone from single travelers to families, and the pricing is generally fair (again, steak notwithstanding!). All the major fast-food chains are represented in the region's cities, so that makes pricing affordable all the way up the line. For “fine” dining, prices are still reasonable, but edge up a bit in hotel restaurants.
