Visitors to the Alaska Panhandle will find that prices for virtually every aspect of a trip to this region are quite reasonable.

Hotels in the Alaska Panhandle are generally tourist class or better, so finding acceptable lodging in not difficult. The hotels are generally clean, well-located, and reasonably-priced with all the amenities necessary for everyone from singles to families to stay comfortably. Visitors can find hotel rooms starting at $45 per night. Bed and breakfast establishments (B&Bs) are also available, costing about $80 per night or more. Campers can set up their tents and gear on campsites in many locations throughout the region the region for around $25 a day. Most lodging establishments are located in the region's cities, like Juneau, Pelican, Ketchikan, Sitka, Haines, Wrangell, and Petersburg.

Dining out in the Alaska Panhandle is well within a reasonable price range for the average visitor throughout the region. A good selection of local fare, often featuring great seafood, can be found for affordable to relatively-cheap prices. There's also, of course, the usual line-up of name brand fast food chains - everything from the golden arches to the colonel are found here.

As for sightseeing tours, there is a great variety found here, with everything from the self-guided type to the fully-inclusive ones with motor coach, guide, lodging, meals, and admissions (where applicable). Depending on the tour type, pricing can be anywhere from reasonable to exorbitant, ranging from as low as $35 up to a lofty $1000 per day.

Self-drive options are a good choice for staying within a single area, but may be a bit daunting if you are not comfortable with the rough terrain and the need for ferries to reach your destination. There are a good selection of car rental agencies in the major population centers, like Juneau, Ketchican, and Haines. Compared to the lower 48 states, however, car rental costs and gas prices run higher.
