Public transportation does actually exist in this region, but is really only reliable or widespread in Albuquerque and Santa Fe. For all intents and purposes, a car is essential for getting around the region, especially in any real capacity.
Getting Around Phoenix, Tucson, Scottsdale, Tombstone and Southern Arizona
Tucson is serviced by a local bus system, while Phoenix has both a local bus system and a light rail system that will transport you to all major points in the city, as well as to nearby Mesa, Tempe, Scottsdale, North Mountain, Glendale, Chandler, Avondale, and Deer Valley.
