The Lucerne Hotel
Early check in - 11am. Was promised kitchenette + pullout couch. Spoke to Hassan at front desk - (212) 875-1000
American Museum of Natural History - New York City, NY
Check into buying NY Pass (or whatever)
Chrysler Building - New York City, NY
Dig deep in contacts - know ANYONE in the building. Try George Hatzmann from Columbia Law days. MUST see the 71st floor offices. If not, at least the rare wood and nickel chromium elevator artwork.
Top of the Rock - Rockefeller Center Observation Deck, NYC
Aim to get there around sunset and stay for an hour. We owe Grandpa a picture - he proposed to Grandma at the Rainbow Room
Toys "R" Us - New York City, NY
Jamies' birthday coming up - he likes Knex and fighter planes
Lower East Side Tenement Museum - New York City
Buy pickles at Guss. Ask Stan what the best deli in the area is or just head to chinatown for lunch
The Brooklyn Bridge - New York City, NY
Start off the day walking into the city.
Brooklyn Heights Esplanade
Enter from Montague street
New York City Chinatown - Manhattan, NY
Buy some stuff for dinner - rumors that there are Mangosteens available.
The World Trade Center Site - New York City, NY
Best view of the site is from the Path Train to New Jersey
Citi Field (Shea Stadium) - New York Mets Baseball - Flushing
vs. Cincinnati at 8pm- I bet we win. Take the #7 train. Tickets at will call.
Statue Of Liberty National Monument - New York
Check what is open post - 9/11. May be better just to take the ferry past it.
The Empire State Building - New York City, NY
Buy combo ticket - no lines - skip the movie
SoHo - Manhattan, New York City
Do not bother getting there early.
Bronx Zoo - New York City, NY
Get there early. Butterfly garden is open. Stay until penguin feeding at 330.
Chelsea Piers - New York City, NY
Or any evening if kids still have energy

About my trip:
Here is the plan - looking for volunteers to update after the trip - First a word of warning to the Denver-ites. NY is the city that never sleeps, so you won't either. And a second word - check out the hotel prices. You are saving that by staying with me, so any complaints about my living room being the size of your walk-in closet in Colorado - give me a bad rating on TripAdvisor or just Shadd-up! (Joking - I am so glad you are visiting us). Now the plan - Wednesday - 6am anyone who wants to join me for a couple of laps around the reservoir is welcome. If you don't then expect me to tell you how I ran into Madonna, again. 7am - back with Steaming hot bagels from H&H (don't confuse with B&H - thats tommorrow). 730 - everyone better be up the last bagels will be gone by 745. Subway downtown - if planned well - its the peak of rush hour. And you thought the Estes Park Campground was crowded. Get Otta Here (again joking). Today we cover everything. The morning is my Architecture tour of midtown. After we have touched these temples of finance and industry we are going up. Not to the Empire State Building, like the "tourists" but the the top of the rock. You won't regret it. You pick your lunch spot and don't forget - the tour guide gets treated to lunch and a triple scoop sundae later. I know you think I am joking - I am from the "rich" side of the family. Sorry - not a joke. Rent is $3000 and I pay more to park my car than you pay rent on your office in Golden, CO. Hope the Debit card is loaded up. Wed afternoon - pick a museum by popular vote or by decree. You can't go wrong. You also can't do it all. They build them and open new exhibits faster than anyone could actually go. Look at the choices I suggested. Just when its getting dark (and after you buy me dinner) we end up in times square - not at a show (you told me not to), but at the worlds largest Toys R Us. BUT, don't forget - no car. Think about holding that 5 ft tall stuffed dinosaur on the subway. In the 70's you might not have made it home. Thursday - you still have not seen my car (in fact, neither have I, parked in the garage under the highway 12 blocks away), but look down at your feet. They are today’s transportation. But, again we start on the train. Its the BMT to Brooklyn (people stopped calling it the BMT long before I was born, but why not confuse the tourists) and off in Brooklyn Heights. Good place for this mornings coffee (regular, please). Now one of the world greatest walks begin. Camera's ready! No more details - OK - a little teaser - Skyline view, Brooklyn Bridge Walk, Chinatown, Lunch in Lower East Side Deli, Lower Broadway. Dinner is on me if you have any complaints for the day (besides "my feet hurt"). At night we do something some New Yorkers almost never do - we leave the island. But, its for a good cause - the Met Game. Nope, the 1969 magic is gone and Tom Seaver is now tending vineyards in California, but the guys yelling "Kill the Ump" are still there. And by the way - root for the Reds and you buy your own hotdog! Friday - Get those Denver hats on (and one for me) - today we are being tourists - Statue of Liberty, Circle Line, Empire State and whatever else tourists do. But, I know how to avoid the lines at the Empire State Building. Saturday - See New yorkers relax - some by hanging out in Central Park, some driving golf balls off a pier and some by (I know you will like this) - SHOPPING. Don't let my love of the cast iron buildings get in the way of that. Sunday - its your last day and I probably won't be able to keep it a secret from Aunt Maria and Uncle Bob that you are in town - so, we are packing off to the Bronx (chance to see my car - not been touched in a month). Don't worry - 30 minutes with the family (that’s as much as Bob can take me, anyway) and we are off to the Bronx Zoo. Not only is it the best one in the Bronx and in New York, many consider it the best in the US (don't tell that to Janet in San Diego). If the price of gas has not gone too high, we will take the long route to the airport - passing through Queens (remember Uncle Bobs stories from the world fair?) and driving through Brooklyn (or Italy, Jamaica, Poland, Russia, etc) and some pretty amazing views, bridges and almost definitely, traffic. What airport are you flying from, anyway?
OK
