Things to do / Travel Guide
When you think of southern California you probably think of Los Angeles, San Diego, Hollywood - all beautiful and exciting places. What kind of golf can you expect to find in such a renowned area? Nothing but the best. What's best? You'll find the beautiful, you'll find the exciting, and much more.
Start with La Purisima. This beauty has narrow fairways with uneven lies, elevation changes requiring many uphill and downhill shots, undulating greens with many subtle breaks, and trees and brush which come into play.
The Ojai Valley Inn and Country Club is a magnificent older course in a beautiful spa environment. Though the course has an open design, you must cross a number of barranca (dry ditches filled with rocks). This course offers a wonderful experience to beginners and experienced golfers alike.
Rustic Canyon Golf Course is a course Golf Digest has rated the #1 “Best New Public Affordable Course.” What do you get for your money? No trees, much wind, and fast greens.
The Lost Canyons Sky Course rolls along a canyon ridge line above the Shadow Course on the canyon floor. Most players love this course. They've called it "beautiful," and "challenging."
You'll find wide open fairways with a spotting of trees, and elevated well-bunkered greens at La Costa Resort & Spa North Course. Several holes will challenge you with water hazards. Golfers of all handicaps will enjoy this course where they can measure themselves against such greats as Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, and Tiger Woods, who've also played here.
The Torrey Pines South Course offers 7,607 yards of fun. In addition to using a juiced up driver you'll need to be able to hit the ball straight because the fairways are tight and lined with deep rough.
The Barona Creek Golf Club is located on the Barona Indian Reservation. You'll find wide, rolling fairways that move past rock formations, large oaks, and other native flora. Water hazards and boulders are common impediments to a low score on this course.
