Mile High Swinging Bridge - Grandfather Mountain
Grandfather Mountain is itself pretty special. Take U.S. Highway 221 from the town of Boone in northwest North Carolina to get there, and you can drive to the top. The mountain is privately-owned, and the owners decided to dedicate the site to toned-down tourism, an appreciation of nature. There are twin peaks at the mountain's height, and those not affected by a fear of heights can walk from one peak to the other via the Mile High Swinging Bridge.
The bridge is 228 feet from tower to tower, and it's suspended over an 80-foot chasm. The views are pretty spectacular, and with the wind blowing, crossing over is pretty awesome. They say on a clear day you can make out the city of Charlotte, North Carolina!
