High Sierra Outdoor Recreation in Yosemite National Park

Home to some of the most breathtaking mountain scenery in the United States, the National Parks of the High Sierra's provide hundreds of miles of hiking trails covering a broad range of difficulty levels. Visitors to Yosemite National Park will be able to view giant sequoias, waterfalls thousands of feet high and sheer granite rock faces on very short and accessible hikes. Trekkers interested in exploring the back country alpine meadows and the 800 miles of hiking trails will find that the crowds of Yosemite Valley often dissipate in less than an hour of hiking.

Outdoor Recreation in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park

Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks are more remote than Yosemite and than almost any other parkland in California. There are many good day hikes in spite of the very limited road access. While you can visit the General Sherman tree (worlds largest) on a short stroll from the parking lot, a better experience is hiking deep into the sequoia forest.

Other hikes along the 800 miles of trails venture deep into the ancient forest wilderness, explore the 8200-foot deep canyon and 14,496 foot Mt. Whitney.

Lake Tahoe Outdoor Sports

The deep blue waters of Lake Tahoe and the surrounding snow-capped mountains offer recreation opportunities year-round. Skiers will be glad to know that the area, which hosted the 1960 Winter Olympics is home to the largest concentration of ski resorts in the United States. In the summer, kayakers can paddle along the 72 miles of Lake Tahoe. Hiking and camping are popular and very rewarding activities around Lake Tahoe.
